Winter is Coming: Severe Weather Security

Whenever choosing a surveillance system, it is important to consider local weather patterns. In places that experience harsh winters, heat waves, torrential rain or storms, you should pick cameras designed to withstand such conditions and remain not only operational, but perform as required. These conditions can negatively impact the performance of cameras not designed with extreme weather in mind.

What to Look For

Ingress Protection (IP)

Outdoor cameras for severe weather conditions should have a high Ingress Protection (IP) value for both solid particle and liquid protection. The higher the value of each digit indicates better protection, zero is equivalent to no protection. Protection against these helps ensure that tiny particles or moisture do not get trapped on the lens, on components or the image sensor and affect the quality and functionality. Read more about IP66 here.

Build quality

Cameras also need protection against severe weather in terms of temperature. In  areas where the temperature is likely to fall below 15°F, cameras will usually come with housing and a thermostat to regulate temperature and protect it from frost.  The thermostat keeps temperatures within the recommended range for optimal performance.

Extreme heat on the other hand can impair the internal technology in the camera. To protect the camera from reaching such high temperatures, it is best to find a location that shields the camera from direct sunlight.

The Best Outdoor Camera for the Job

Amaryllo’s outdoor cameras are all designed with the ability to withstand severe weather conditions. All models carry an IP66 resistance rating and are built with industrial grade materials, allowing them to withstand temperature from -40° to 140°F effectively without losing image quality. The cameras have been reviewed as the best robotic outdoor cameras in the United States and for good reason, we have multiple products all designed with quality in mind.

Ares Pro and Triton can distinguish between humans and cars to reduce the number of false alarms. Both cameras feature full 360-degree auto tracking, which tracks any moving object to provide that little bit of extra security by capturing everything happening on your property. If someone steps onto your property into the view of the camera, you can utilize the two way communication to address them from anywhere via the Amaryllo app.

AR4 comes with Power over Ethernet (PoE) support and advanced 256-bit military grade encryption to protect the camera feed. Full HD provides a crystal clear image not just during the day but night time as well with the enhanced night vision, thanks to the 36 built-in infrared LEDs. Through the app, you can see what is going on instantly, when a notification is received, as well as on demand viewing.
