IP66 - What Is It and Why Is It Important?

It is essential that a security camera designed for outdoor use is fully capable of standing up to any harsh weather conditions that it may face. That is why all Amaryllo cameras designed for outdoor use are professional grade IP66 certified.

The IP (Ingress Protection or International Protection) code classifies and rates electrical enclosures by the level that they are capable of resisting dust, intrusion of solid objects, water and accidental contact. All IP ratings follow the same format. They all contain the letters “IP”, followed by two numbers. The two digits represent the degree in which a product is capable of resisting different forms of environmental influence. The first digit represents how resistant the product is against solids and the second digit represents how resistant the product is against liquids. The first digit will always be a number between zero and six and the second digit will always be a number between zero and nine.

Our outdoor cameras’ ratings of IP66 means that the cameras are fully resistant to solids. As a result, they are protected from entry by small tools, insects, and they are incredibly dust-resistant. They are also protected from jets of high-pressure water. Through rigorous testing, they were proven to suffer no harmful effects when sprayed with 300 litres of water projected in powerful jets over three minutes. This means that under no realistically conceivable circumstance that extreme weather would be able to compromise the integrity of the camera. They all also remain fully functional through a temperature range of -40°F to 140°F (-40°C to 60°C).

When you choose an Amaryllo outdoor camera, you can rest assured that you are choosing a camera that has been designed from the ground up to be tough, durable and resistant to the harshest of weather conditions. Our cameras are no pushovers - they are built to last.
